I look for inspiration everywhere! We were at our friend’s newly remodeled kitchen and I fell in love with this fridge!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nSince we moved into our home six years ago I have been dreaming of renovating our kitchen. Our home was built in 1890 but our kitchen was a 1990’s builder-grade special. While a great upgrade for the galley kitchen of the apartment we moved from this sort half of u-shaped kitchen layout slash l-shaped kitchens layout just wasn’t cutting it. I tried adding a kitchen island to make the layout make sense but while adding usable counter space to create the magical “work triangle” it just made small spaces smaller. So, that left me dreaming of new larger kitchens and my someday, new kitchen.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
So, how to plan a new kitchen? Yes, of course, you can make a call and have a designer come over but where is the fun in that? LOL! Seriously, though whether you hire a designer or not I think it’s super helpful if you at least have a general idea of what you want. But what do you want? You and only you should answer this. This may sound so elementary and silly but it is so true. YOU live in your space and while it’s true that generally, most kitchens function the same the intricacies of their layout and function should be unique to you and your family.<\/p>\n
First thing go on Pinterest and search! Create a board name kitchen round one and save everything that just hits you! Don’t think about your space, the size, or your budget; just pin what you just love!<\/p>\n
Don’t be too scared but here is my super long go-to search list! It will bring up all the little things that you might not have thought of when searching for your kitchen remodel.<\/p>\n

Ok so this may seem like a crazy list and not all of it may apply to your kitchen exactly but kitchens often lead to other ideas and start to hone in on what your tastes and needs are.<\/p>\n

From there I every so often scan the “kitchen round one” board and start to look closer at what you pinned. If you find yourself coming back to something again and again I want you to pin it to a new board, kitchen round two.<\/p>\n
Still don’t even think about the reality of your space or your budget, just be free and save what you like and what really gets you amped! Then keep whittling it down and down, this may seem daunting because if you are anything like me you will pin A LOT LOL!! This might take a lot of time so don’t feel rushed or overwhelmed, take your time and just scan your board for a bit and narrow it down.<\/p>\n
Next, once you have narrowed down your board print out your favorites ad tape them up on your walls. Live with it, every day and see, after a few weeks, you might not feel something anymore or might not feel like it fits your life and space.<\/p>\n
Then I take photos of each wall and print them out in black and white. I get a red marker and draw over the new design, I tape it to the wall and put the pin inspiration prints next to that area.<\/p>\n

yes, you have to live with this messy situation but you are going to be having construction and near permanent construction, so it’s worth the unsightliness for a few weeks (or a bit more lol)<\/p>\n
from here start to make a wish list and a must-have list. This will be perfect when you finally schedule the appointment with your contractor. You can show them your current kitchen design and your dream kitchen, what you must have, and what you would love if the budget allows. By basically being your own kitchen designer you can have more control of the reigns in a potentially daunting and overwhelming experience.<\/p>\n
